McCain Erratically Flip Flops on MSNBC. After voting for the bailout bill last night, he responds to Scarborough’s attack on it by suggesting Bush should veto it. When Mika responds by asking why he voted for it, he seemingly backtracks. Warning: Video may cause viewer whiplash.
- Politico: McCain Camp must pick-off big Kerry state(s) (PA, MN or WI) plus hold key red states: NV or CO. Good luck with that. Loss of Michigan means McCain must, at a minimum, win Pennsylvania, and that’s very unlikely.
- McCain jumps into his Lexus and pulls out of Michigan! Cancels event in Plymouth scheduled for next week, taking TV ads off air, and moving staff to other states.
- Rasmussen Weekly North Carolina Poll: Obama leads for second straight week, 50-47%.
- Daily Tracking Polls. Research 2000 poll reaches new high of +11, 51-40%. Rasmussen also reflects new high for Obama of +7, 51-44%. (As Chuck Todd said this morning on MSNBC, it’s not the precise numbers that matter as much as the trendlines. Two daily tracking polls showing all-time high margins is obviously a very good trend for Obama). Gallup shows a slight uptick towards Obama, but remains the outlier with only a +5 Obama margin, 48-43%.
- Economy. Weekly jobless claims rise to highest level since 9/11.
- WaPo/ABC Poll: Sarah Palin’s popularity has plummeted in the 5 weeks since she was named McCain’s VP. She’s been abandoned by independents and Hillary supporters, and is now a drain on the McCain ticket.
- Roger Cohen/NY Times: Bush-Cheney have proven to be reckless gamblers with the Iraq war and the economy. The last thing we need is another recklessly gambling administration in the form of McCain/Palin.
- NY Times: What to watch for in today’s Palin-Biden VP debate.
- Halperin/Time. Democrats win the week in a landslide.
- New Wisconsin Poll. Obama leads 49-40%.

I haven’t read anything else, so my apologies RKR. All I did was watch the video, but it so incensed me that I couldn’t hold off commenting until I’m done with the entire post.
John McCain has just shown to the United States voters that he is willing to violate his standards long before he’s willing to lower them. He talks a good game, but his one “nay” vote wouldn’t have killed that bill, and since he’s putting campaign first rather than country, he just helped pushed through a giant, pork-laden bill. Single-handed if you believe his spewage.
Sorry, Johnny. Your 15 minutes are up. Back to the Senate bullpen for you. Obama’s going to have your hide in the next debate on this one.
